Romish FAQ

Short answers about Romish, competitive Counter-Strike 2 matchmaking. For the whole flow, see How Romish works.

Romish is a 10-player matchmaking platform for Counter-Strike 2. You sign in with Steam and queue. When ten players are found, Romish builds two balanced teams, your team votes on map bans, and we set up a dedicated server for you. Read the full flow on How Romish works.

Romish is in beta. While Open beta is switched on, everyone who signs in can queue for free. When it is off, queueing needs a paid tier: Starter ($4.99 a month), Premium ($9.99) or Elite ($19.99). Card payments are not live yet, so for now an admin grants subscriptions by hand. Browsing the leaderboard and the map pool is always free.

Teams are built automatically when the match is created. Parties always stay on the same team. The other players are split so both teams are as close in Elo as possible, with a little randomness so you do not get identical teammates every game.

After the 8 second team reveal, the teams take turns banning maps until one is left. Each ban is a vote by the players on the banning team: three matching votes, or all five players voting, close it right away. You get 20 seconds per ban.

Nothing stalls. If your team has not decided after 20 seconds, the map with the most votes is banned. If nobody voted, we ban a random map. There is no penalty for this.

The veto pool is Dust II, Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, Overpass, Vertigo, Ancient. Night versions of classic maps are coming to beta testers first. See the map pool page.

We try again once. If setup still fails, or takes longer than 3 minutes, we cancel the match with no penalty for anyone and put all ten players back at the front of the queue.

If you are away from the site during the team reveal or the veto, or disconnected from the game server during the match, for 5 minutes, it counts as an abandon. You get a queue cooldown and lose Trust Score. Reconnecting in time clears it.

After a match we compare the average Elo of the two teams and work out how likely each was to win. Every player's rating moves by that gap with K = 32, so beating a stronger team earns more than beating a weaker one. Everyone on a team gets the same change.

Yes. You sign in with Steam, and CS2 itself runs on Steam. We use your Steam name and avatar for your profile and do not see your Steam password.

The name is Rom-ish: Romanian plus Irish.
